Throwback Roadtrip! Part 1 - San Francisco

Dienstag, 4. Juni 2013

Summer of 2011 my family and I decided to make a round trip with the camper by the West of America.
The adventurous journey begins with a flight from Frankfurt to San Francisco with the A380. This is my first time on this airplane. I personally think it's not as great as it was touted to us. Sure, it's huge and it can fit an incredible number of people.. but it also has drawbacks! For example, you get your food or other service will be received twice as long as usual because even more people sit in the aircraft. Sometimes the food even runs out! You also have to wait a long time for getting out, which is especially annoying when you sit far back. Well all in all, the 12-hour flight passed by at some point too!

San Francisco is a wonderful city. The roads are amazing (I highly recommend the Lombard Street)! Because the city is a little bit on the hill, all the roads are very steep! Not necessarily great as a driver, but all the funnier as a passenger (;

A very important tip to all the San Francisco visitors: Don´t go somewhere without a sweater!! The weather looks good maybe, the sun will shine with a lot of luck, but this is deceptive! Please please do not forget to bring a warm jacket! Almost every time it´s super cold because of the wind! Don´t underestimate it. A jacket will be your best friend in this city.

In San Francisco, there is plenty to do! Here are some of the most famous places which you should have seen while you are visiting:

Golden Gate Bridge - The classic for San Francisco. (In the first picture to see). A huge bridge and really can not be overlooked. As a background, it is an insane building and even if you stand in front of it you will be amazed how big it is in reality! Although I have to say it´s not exactly the definition of beauty in it´s design and it is incredibly cold, especially when driving with an open roof , but it is still one of the most interesting buildings I have ever seen.

Sea lions at Pier 39 - Between January and July, you can see sea lions lounging on the pier 39th. By now, it already turned into a tourist attraction! It is so funny watching them as they roll, lying on their stomachs or make all sorts of nonsense. But be careful that you do not plan your visit too late in the year, otherwise you can only see a few of them or none at all!

Lombard Street - a little street with its red-brick pavement and lovingly tended flowerbeds. It wasn’t always so bent; before the automobile it lunged straight down the hill. A road, reminiscent of serpentine sfrom the Alps. Totally fun to run down there or to just walk, but beware that your car is not too long!

So these are at least a few of my favorite places. The easiest system to see all of the sightseeing stops, just take the  hop on hop off buss which stops at every second street!
But San Francisco lends itself fabulous for shopping as well either at the city center or when you are looking for a few bargains, the best deals you will make in the outlets, which are a little bit out of the city. If you have trouble finding more or detailed information, just ask in the tourist center where usually also be available many flyers. Or just mail me haha.

All in all, this city is really fantastic, one of the best places in the world! Who has the chance to go, they should definitely do it!

Just a small PS: who wants to relax should definitely go to the Golden Gate Park, a fantastic view of the city!
